FIREMAN

Muskingum County Firefighters said a final goodbye to one of their own today. Rick Hunt, a 31 year Veteran lost his battle with cancer this week.

Hunt was a firefighter, fire investigator and EMS for for many local fire departments in Ohio. A salute and formal procession was held in his honor. Med Flight also carried out a fly over to pay respect. Lieutenant of the New Concord Fire Department, Matt Wood, first met Hunt 8 years ago during his time volunteering for the department. Wood says that Rick was a man who was always willing to lend a helping hand.

"Rick could get along with anybody. Any new members that came in he was always willing to help him out. Teach them the new stuff. Teach them the ropes, he's just a great all around guy that helped out anybody."

New Concord assistant Fire Chief Troy Cole has known Hunt for 18 years. He says not only was hunt a helper and a teacher, but also served as a role model for young firefighters.

"I think the best thing to say about Rick is that we're all firefighters but in that there are some firefighters that are firefighters firefighters. They're the guys that when you look up to, they're the ones you want to emulate. You want to be them when you start your career. In the end that's how you want to be. Rick was that kind of guy."

Hunt passed away on July 8th surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Lois Chambers Hunt, his children, brother and extended family.
