Staying safe while having fun in the sun...that will be the focus of a safety event held at Riesbeck's in South Zanesville later next week.

The event will take place Thursday, July 24th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in front of the store.

"We would like to invite not only our customers, but the community to come over and enjoy the day's activities that we have planned," said Jane Dombroski, Riesbeck's Store Events Coordinator. "It's going to be a lot of fun."

Experts will be on hand from Genesis addressing topics such as proper sunscreen usage, skin cancer prevention information, as well as helmet safety with bikes and ATV's.  The sheriff's office and Muskingum County Safe Community Coalition will also be there to address other safety topics.

"We'll be doing the kids ID print which is a driver's license card that the parents keep inside their wallets," said Kim Hambel, Director of Operations for the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office. "So if they're at King's Island or Myrtle Beach, and the kid comes up missing, they can give this to the law enforcement officer.  The law enforcement can see what the kid looks like and put out an alert for the kid."

"We're going to be here focussing on impaired driving," said Christina Bell with the Muskingum County Safe Community Coalition. "We will have some activities that include using fatal vision goggles that people wear, and it simulates your impairment.  Then they attempt to play cornhole with and without them, and it shows how they actually don't see things the same way once they're impaired."

The event is free to the public, and all are encouraged to attend.
