A father and son duo are traveling the country bringing awareness to Genetically Modified Organisms in America's food supply.

Brett Wilcox and his 15-year-old son, David, a cross country champion started their journey in California back in January and have made it all the way to Zanesville. They say their goal is to educate people about the dangers of GMOs in their foods.

A dozen hopefuls worked their way to becoming peer support coaches for those suffering from mental illness and addictions.

The Peer Support Program aims to help people get into recovery and stay sober for the remainder of their lives. The students learn a variety of tactics to help them through the process while supporting others just starting their journey.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says a missing man has been found dead.  Lutz says the body of 67-year-old John Barthelow of Blue Rock was found Tuesday evening in the river north of the 719 Bridge.  He had been missing since June 13th.  Sheriff Lutz says the body was found by people searching for two white males who were reported in the river yelling for help after they apparently fell in.

The Zanesville Fire Department has been called to the Muskingum River after a report of two white males in the water.  The initial call indicated it is in the area of Harper’s Auto Body Shop.   Whiz News has a crews going to the scene to check it out. As of 4:35 p.m. rescue crews in boats have not found anything.  Emergency crews are now asking bystanders to move away from the the river bank.

Zanesville Police say they have been having problems in the Baker Street area recently and Sunday night it turned into a beating incident. Beginning Wednesday, June 25th I-70 west will be restricted to one lane in Muskingum County.

ODOT crews will begin work at 8:30 a.m. to repair concrete on the bridge deck at the Norwich exit, crossing over US 22.  All ramps will remain open during the duration of the roadwork. 

Traffic will be restricted to one lane westbound for the duration of the repair and the lane will reopen Thursday, June 26th at 5:30 a.m., weather permitting.

Newark Police said they've concluded their investigation into a subject that entered a local gas station with blood on his arms, clothing, legs and shoes.

Authorities said the subject entered the Circle K on West Church Street around 11:14a.m. Monday, when the clerk asked about the blood he made the comment, "You should see the guy in the back of the truck."

Zanesville City Council's ordinance regarding panhandling and enterprise solicitation has been passed.

After taking up the ordinance which had been tabled at the last meeting, Council approved an amendment to allow 501(c)(3) organizations to apply for a permit to solicit in the right of way if approved by the public safety director. All others caught soliciting funds on public property would be in violation of the law.

The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol said nearly 400 cars passed through their sobriety checkpoint on Maple Avenue Friday night.

The checkpoint was held between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. just north of Kay Drive. Despite a large volume of vehicles, Lt. Matt Boyd said the troopers encountered virtually no issues with drivers.
