It is tax time again and the nations largest volunteer run tax counseling service is preparing tax returns free of charge. Starting today and every Monday from 12:30PM to 2:45PM at the Muskingum County Center For Seniors, AARP tax aide counselors will assist seniors with their tax returns. The City of Zanesville finally got their issue 2 grant money to continue the never-ending task of repairing roads. The Ohio Public Works Commission grant is offered every year to communities. Our community applied and qualified for the money. The city will have over 400 thousand dollars to work with this year. Road improvements were divided up evenly between the city’s wards.
Today construction started on Zanesville’s famous Y-Bridge. Improvements are being made to the canal lift span and the concrete walls surrounding the bridge will be replaced with railings. The bridge replacements should be completed by May 4th.
Another road advisory for motorists. A sink hole the size of a car on Moxahala Avenue, could alter your driving route for a couple days. It happened early Monday morning. Zanesville’s Public Service Director Mike Sims says motorists should try to find an alternate route for the next couple of days. Crews hope to have it fixed soon.
Goodwill Industries has developed a program that creates opportunities for area residents who want to be part of the workforce. Representatives from Goodwill went to update the County Commissioners on the highly individualized services that are available with the workforce development and training program through Goodwill Industries. Local Agencies are gearing up for Operation Feed, a program that benefits food pantries and the goals they set to feed the needy around the area. The United Way is inviting the community to attend a meeting that will be held this Thursday February 7th at 8:30 am at Christ’s Table. Operation Feed runs through April and May however volunteers are encouraged now to jump-start the campaign. If you would like to contribute to the cause, contact the United Way for more information.
A traffic alert to motorists in the Zanesville area. Work on the Y-Bridge is scheduled to begin Monday February 4th. Due to the nature of the work U-S 40 will be closed for 90 days. A 14 day closure of West Main and Linden will take place in April. For both of these closures, a posted detour will be interstate 70 to state route 60. Also known as 7th and 6th streets in Zanesville. All work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the working day on May 4th.
