With the holiday’s fast approaching, the Salvation Army is getting ready for their Angel Tree Campaign, but this year there are a few changes. It will now be known as the Angel Tree Toy Shop. The tree will still be up at the mall, but now the ornaments will list just a child’s gender and age. The Salvation Army’s goal is to have at least 2 presents for each child. An extraordinary event occurred when a surprise visitor stopped in at the emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital. It happened around 10 this morning when an uninvited guest crashed through emergency room windows and came into the building near security doors. A six point buck decided to break through the glass doors because it saw its reflection. Luckily with the remodeling of the ER at Good Sam, fire doors were already in place for safety reasons. The Muskingum River Locks have been part of the river system for over 160 years. And Monday the Muskingum River Advisory Board was discussing ways to perserve the system. Muskingum County has the last hand operated lock systems in the United States. The locks were built in 1841, to accomdate boat traffic.

A local family is left homeless tonight after a fire ripped through their house early this morning. At around 10 O'clock this morning a passerby noticed flames coming out of a home on 8760 Dutch School Road. Damage was extensive throughout the house but some items were saved. Nobody was at home at the time of the fire except the family's dog who escaped without injury. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The 9-11 buttons that area residents were buying to remember those who lost their lives to the terrorists, raised over 14-thousand dollars for our area agencies. At the Mayors office today local authorities got together to thank the citizens of Zanesville for their contributions. The artist Adam Freeland, who designed the pin was also on hand. All the money raised will go to local families, especially those affected by the September 11th attacks.

There is a new development tonight in the police investigation of the shootings that took place at the canteen bar early saturday morning. It was believed that 27-year old Kelly Carpenter was responsible for the shots that fatally wounded 25-year old Timothy Dawson of Columbus and injured 30-year old Dawan Wright also of Columbus.
