The State Highway Patrol will get 50 new troopers to help during times of heightened security alerts if the Ohio House agrees to a plan the Senate added to the Transportation Budget. The Senate plan transfers eight million dollars from a program to beautify rest areas on Ohio highways to pay for the new class of troopers. The reality of war is hard to deal with if you're an adult. But if you are a child, it's even more difficult. Through a program called "Words Of Wisdom", Wilson Elementary School is helping students deal with the effects of war. Each morning, students hear a war related thought of the day read by the school's principal. Some Muskingum County residents are without water service tonight. The East Muskingum Water Authority says between 500 and 600 customers lost their service around 3:30 this afternoon. If you live in the Duncan Falls-Gaysport area you are likely affected. That includes residents on South Dietz Lane, Millers Lane from Wayne Ridge Road to State Route 60 South, Pine Knolls Sub-division and all of the Gaysport area. It’s a beautiful time of the year in southeastern Ohio, but with the nice weather comes the chance for serious storms. And, the Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency announced that it will be testing tornado sirens in Muskingum County on Wednesday March 26th. Disaster services officials say the test will occur at 9:50 in the morning. Officials say the test will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

A Senate Committee is set to vote Monday on Governor Taft's plan to increase the state gasoline tax by six cents a gallon. The 4.7 billion dollar construction budget would raise Ohio's 22-cents-a-gallon gas tax by two cents in each of the next three years. It would raise about 400 million dollars for highway construction. If the Senate Highways and Transportation Committee apprives the plan Monday, it could go to the full Senate Tuesday. Sunday WHIZ brought the story of a possible drowning in the Dillon area. Rescue crews continued their search Monday, after a full day of searching on Sunday. According to Detective Mike Ryan with the Muskingum County Sheriff's Department, a Lancaster couple talked with a white male early Sunday morning. To ensure the safety of our troops overseas...the Department of Defense has asked Americans to stop sending unsolicited care packages. These packages can provide a way for dangerous substances or materials to enter into the military system. However, the American Red Cross has a program called "Quality of Life" that allows troops to recieve packages from caring U.S. citizens. A couple from Lancaster encountered a man described as intoxicated. He was walking along State Route 146 when they picked him up and took him to the spillway area of the Dillon Dam. According to the couple, the man made some comments that he was going to jump into the water. Ten minutes later, the couple noticed he was gone.
