Judy A. Schiele, 72, died at home Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 9:40 a.m. following a brief but very courageous battle with cancer.
Judy was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church where she worked as the Director of Religious Education for fourteen years. During her time at St. Nicholas, she implemented Vacation Bible School, the Blessing of the Animals, and the May Crowning. She also made it possible for children with special needs to attend Religious Education classes each week.

Judy was born Monday, January 11, 1937 to the late Howard W. and Jane A. Holmes Kendrick. She married Dean Schiele on May 14, 1955, and he preceded her in death on December 14, 2000. Together they gave life and left a legacy to seven children: Kathy (Dan) Soller, Kris (Doug) Staker, Jill (Larry) Merry, Janet Schiele, Joanie (Tim) McConaha, Bethany Schiele, and Michael (Melanie) Schiele. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Matthew (Misty) Puckett, Nathan (Cheri) Puckett, Megan Puckett, Ryan Staker, Christopher (Heather) Merry, Laura (Adam) Rex, Jonathan and Justin Merry, Joshua, Bryan, and Kaitlin McConaha; Emily Schiele; and three other children whom she considered family, Mary, Paul, and Weston Nern. Judy was also blessed with five great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. In addition, she leaves behind an Aunt, Vivian McElfresh, seven siblings: Sue (Larry) Kohler, Carol (Roger) McGlade, Sally (Robert) Tague, Bill (Cindy) Kendrick, Bob (Maggie) Kendrick, Tom (Joellen) Kendrick, and Lynda (Jim) Sharrer, and her canine companions, Sophie, Savannah, and Gracie, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by Dean's parents, Leo P. and Frances Schiele and a son-in-law, Jim Puckett.

Calling hours will be held 1-4 & 6-8pm with Christian Wake service at 7:30pm Thursday Aug. 13 at the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday August 14 at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Zanesville. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to St. Nicholas Church, Bishop Fenwick School, or Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care.
