Esther M. Reed, age 84 of Zanesville, passed away at 4:40 pm Saturday August 15, 2009 at Genesis Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born July 16, 1925 in Meigs Twp., Muskingum County and was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Sadie V. Lyon Mullen.

Esther is a graduate of Meigs High School, a former employee of J.C. Penney, The Beverly Beauty Shop, Gallagher Drug Store and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. She was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church and she was a great care-giver to her family. Esther enjoyed flower gardening.

She is survived by her husband, John H. Reed, Sr. who she married March 11, 1944 in ElPaso, TX; daughter, Phyllis A. (Robert) Moore of Albuquerque, N.M., grandson: Matthew J. (Robin) Reed of Grove City and great grandchildren, Jack and Simon Reed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John H. “Jay” Reed, Jr. who died in 2004; a brother, Carlos J. Mullen, a sister, Lois J. Mullen, and a half sister, Ruth Bamfield.

Calling hours will be from 4 – 8 pm Tuesday August 18, 2009 at the Bryan and Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave. Funeral services will be at 11 am Wednesday August 19, 2009 at the funeral home with Dr. Richard Boyer officiating. Committal services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
