Mary Edith Joseph went to join the Lord on November 1, 2009. She was born to Azar and Monsura Ellis Joseph on March 21 many years ago in Crooksville.
After the family moved to Zanesville she attended St. Thomas School and was a life long member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Edith helped with the family business and later managed a Variety Store in Duncan Falls. She then became manager of The Riviera, a popular restaurant on South River Road. Later she managed the Beverly Dress Shops in Zanesville and Mansfield.
A member of the Zanesville Ladies Drill Team, Edith performed in programs around Ohio. She was proudly a charter member of the ROYALS (Royal Organization of Young American Lebanese Syrian) Ladies which later changed their name to El Binette (translation: The Girls). This organization raised money for charitable purposes in Zanesville. Their most recent fundraisers were Lebanese dances which were usually held at the Lind Arena. Edith was a past member of the Daughters of Isabella & past member of the Good Samaritan Medical Center Charity Circle.
In 1960 Edith moved to Hollywood, FL where she became a bookkeeper for the Orkin Co. until her retirement. In Florida she was a member of St. Theresa and Nativity Catholic Churches, The Legion of Mary, Big 10 Club, Senior Partners and Moose Club.
Her strength was gathered by her strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and her love for her family and many friends. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded by her mother and father, brothers: Paul, Thomas, Phillip and William, sisters: Catherine, Betty Jane and Carey.
Edith leaves behind her loving sister Phyllis Ann and nine cherished nieces and nephews: Charlotte (Charles) Jones, Mona Lee Joseph, Thomas (Jane) Joseph, Bill (Becky) Joseph, Madonna (Jack) Williams, Mary Ann Joseph, Paulette (Michael) Boehm, Phillip (Patricia) Joseph and Michael (Debbie) Joseph and many adored great nieces and nephews, as well as many beloved relatives and friends. She also had many close friends in Florida and especially shared a close relationship with the Hittle family who said they adopted her as a favorite aunt.
Visitation will be 2:00 – 5:00 and 6:00 – 8:30 Friday November 6, 2009 at Bryan & Snider Funeral 2318 Maple Ave. where Rosary service will be at 7:30.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon Saturday November 7, 2009 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Pius Pietrzyk as celebrant. Committal service will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
