Sheldon Ivan Romine, 85 of South Zanesville, died 8:30 AM Friday, December 04, 2009 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born Sunday, June 08, 1924 in Zanesville, the son of Herman Vernon Romine and Ruth (Martindale) Romine.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and served in the United States Army during World War II. Sheldon retired from Stanley Home Products following 40 years of service. Since 1987 he volunteered at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital having more than 30,000 hours and was the head usher at St. Nicholas Catholic Church for the 11:30am Sunday Mass.
Sheldon is survived by two daughters: Kriste (Ken) Kotten of Westerville and Kelly Lowe of Grove City; one son: Larry J. Phillips of San Diego, CA, five grandchildren: Ian Phillips, Christopher Lowe, Stephanie Lowe, Taylor Lowe & Mackenzie Kotten and a great granddaughter: Violet Grace Phillips; two brothers: Tom (Patty) Romine of Moundsville, MN and David (Marilyn) Romine of Zanesville; one sister: Irene (Brian) Booth of Michigan and a niece: Marguerite (Tim) Davis of Riverview, FL.
In addition to his parents, Sheldon was preceded in death by his wife: Frances Eleanor (Hunter) Romine who died on Nov. 4th, 2003 & six brothers.
Friends may call at the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave. from 2-4 & 6-8pm on Tuesday Dec. 8th with Christian Vigil Service being held at 3:30pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 09, 2009 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Father Marty Ralko as celebrant. Burial will conclude in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospital Foundation or the charity of one’s choice in Sheldon’s name.
