Donald Lee McElroy, 83 of Zanesville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 1, 2010 surrounded by his loving wife, seven children, and his grandchildren.

Don was born in Zanesville on February 16, 1926 to the late Scott and Lucille Humphrey McElroy. Don retired from Gould in McConnelsville after 33 years of dedicated service. Don was a member of The Solomon Lutheran Church, where he and his wife were married. He also served his country and protected our freedom as a member of The United States Navy during WWII.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ermina Garrett McElroy; sons Donald McElroy of Stockport and David (Jenifer) McElroy of Stanwood, WA; daughters Theresa (Dana) Hivnor of McConnelsville, Beth (Randy) Emrich of New Albany, OH, Gayla (Steve) Orr of Nevis, MN, Marsha (Allen) Kraps of McConnelsville, and Dora (Steve) Weaver of Zanesville; brothers Scott W. McElroy of Glenford, OH, and Madison (Linda) McElroy of NC; sisters Marjorie White of Chesterhill, OH, Barbara (Robert) Swingle of Crooksville, and Judith Ann (Richard) Rockwell of Mt Perry; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grand children, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Regina McElroy; grandson Jeremy Barkhurst; great-grandson Hunter Wallace; and a brother John O. McElroy.

In keeping Don’s wishes a cremation will take place with no calling hours. A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday February 6, 2010 at 11:00 am at The Solomon Lutheran Church “ Dutch Hill” ,7508 St. Rte. 669 West, McConnelsville, Oh (2 miles West of Eagleport). A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on April 10, 2010 at The Solomon Lutheran Church Cemetery.
