Hazel Ross, 97, of Crooksville, passed away at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Cedar Hill Care Center. She was born October 8, 1914, in Louisa, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Eli and Emmer Carter Gussler. She was a homemaker and had worked at Essex Wire for a short time. Hazel was a great mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a member of the Church of the Atonement. Hazel was the Grand Marshall of the Deavertown Bicentennial in 2010 and was honored as York Township’s oldest living resident.

Surviving are five sons, Jerry (Carol) Ross and Clarence Keith (Sheryl) Ross, both of Zanesville, Mike (Paula) Ross of Newark, Kendell (Kathy) Ross and Kevin (Gina) Ross, both of Crooksville; three daughters, Shirley (Pearl) Woods of New Lexington, Shelby Jean Musick of Pataskala and Marsha (Tim) Young of Georgia; a daughter-in-law Christine Ross of Roseville, 24 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ross, who died June 26, 1989; a son, Jack Ross, who died October 4, 1999;, a son-in-law George Musick who died March 7, 1999, nine sisters, Flo Gussler, Elizabeth Prater, Sarah Bryan, Alda Collins, Nora & Cora Gussler, Mary Gussler, Jessie Gussler and Marg Gussler; and seven brothers, Will Gussler, Dewey Gussler, Leo & Leonard Gussler, Alvie Gussler, Junior Gussler, and Lawrence Gussler.

Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 207 BURLEY ST., CROOKSVILLE, where Rosary Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Church of the Atonement, 320 Winter St., Crooksville with Father James Csaszar as celebrant. Hazel will be laid to rest next to her husband, Clarence, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A mercy meal will be provided at the church following the services at the cemetery.
