Ohio State defensive coordinator Mark Dantonio has been named head coach at the University of Cincinnati.

Dantonio, who is from Zanesville won’t have to wait long to play against his former friend and boss, Jim Tressel.

The Bearcats open the 2004 season at Ohio State on September fourth.

Dantonio, who graduated from Zanesville High School, has spent the past three seasons at Ohio State.

He takes over for Rick Minter who was fired on December first after a decade as the bearcats’ head coach.
Minter was fired three days after the Bearcats ended their season with a 43-to-40 loss to Louisville.
