Columbus Crew 4, Colorado Rapids 1

Revenge was the dish of choice at Crew Stadium on Sunday.

After suffering a heart-breaking defeat last year in the MLS Playoffs to Colorado, Columbus responded in their first meeting of 2011 with a 4-1 win at home.  It's the first time this season the Crew has won back-to-back games.

The Rapids' Conor Casey broke first and early when, five minutes into the match, he scored on a header crossed in by Jamie Smith.

But the Crew was there to respond.  Eddie Gaven picked off a pass deep in Colorado territory and turned it into a goal.  Andres Mendoza also found the back of the net in the first half, his sixth of the season.

With the Rapids back against the wall, Casey made an ill-advised play late in the opening 45 minutes, barreling forward on a loose ball in the penalty box, when he ran into Crew keeper Williams Hesmer.

Casey was issued a red card, leaving Colorado down a player and all but out of the match.

Mendoza made sure the Rapids stayed that way with a toe-tapping goal three minutes into the second half, his seventh of the year, one back of the MLS lead.

Tom Heinemann added a score in the 57th minute.

Columbus returns to the pitch Tuesday for a U.S. Open Cup match against the Richmond Kickers.

The Crew's next MLS game is Saturday, July 2nd at FC Dallas.
