Labor Day Showcase @ River View Soccer Complex

West Muskingum 2 - Ridgewood 0

West Muskingum was too much to handle in the first game of the Labor Day Showcase.  The Tornadoes totaled 22 shots on goal, while giving up only two to Ridgewood in a 2-0 win.

The Orange and Black fell behind early.  Not even four minutes into the match, West M's Danielle Ware crossed the ball in front of the net, finding fellow senior Stephanie Imes for the score.

The Tornadoes' second score came midway through the second half.  Gabby Smith picked up the assist after feeding Reagan Tyner, who scored in a wide open goal.

As impressive as West Muskingum's chance was the performance of Ridgewood keeper Amanda Bible.  The senior finished with 20 saves in the loss.

The Generals (4-2) dropped their second straight of the year.  The Tornadoes (5-1) avenged their only loss of the year, which is still the only match where West M has allowed a goal this season.

Wooster 2 - River View 1

The River View Black Bears were unable to get a win in the finale of the Labor Day Showcase.  After a well-placed goal off the foot of Destinee Frank, the hosts fell victim to the Generals quick attack.

Anna Battig found the back of the net with 13 to play in the half.  Wooster then took advantage of a River View turnover and went right to the goal, where a dive 30 seconds later by River View's keeper took out Wooster's attacker, resulting in a penalty kick.

Jenn Phillipon converted the chance that proved to be the difference, even though both teams had their chances in the second half.

Circleville 0 - Clear Fork 4

Despite having several chances in the first half, Clear Fork was unable to show their advantage on the scoreboard, until the closing seconds of the opening frame.

The Colts scored with 25 seconds to play in the half and turned up the pressure in the second.  Clear Fork (4-0) scored two goals in a span of 30 seconds to put the Tigers on ice.

Emily Slavinski had a hand in every goal, assisting on three and scoring the last with 8:43 to play.

Mars (PA) 7 - St. Vincent/St. Mary 1

Mars High School was by far the most impressive team of the 2011 Labor Day Showcase.  The Planets struck easily and often en route to a 7-1 win over Akron St. Vincent/St. Mary.

What started with a quiet first half quickly turned to a beatdown in the second.  Leading 2-1 a few minutes into the final frame, Mars (2-0) rolled off three goals in a little more than four minutes of play and never looked back.

Four different players registered goals for the Planets, including Mani Brueckner, who recorded a hat trick, and Karli Paracca (two goals).

Mars finished as the State Runner Up in Pennsylvania a year ago.

Charleston Catholic (WV) 0 - Hawken 5

The Hawks got started early and never really let up in a 5-0 win over Charleston Catholic.

A goal four minutes in set the pace for Hawken, and for Cilin Conner, who would score the Red and Gray's second goal ten minutes later.

Courtney Yoke also tallied two assists in the win.

Columbus Academy 8 - Ontario 1

Coming into Monday's action, Columbus Academy and Ontario were regarded as equals in Division III.  After Monday's action, the Vikings are the clear favorite among the two.

Academy rolled to an 8-1 win over Ontario.  The onslaught began not even a minute into the match, when All-Ohio returnee Erin Simmons found the net.

Seven minutes later, the senior did it again, setting up a hat trick later in the first half.  Simmons also recorded an assist.  Sophomore Kat Weikert finished with two goals and two helpers.
