The longest journey begins with a single step. For Logan Aronhalt, his journey is far from just beginning, but it doesn't take much for people in this area to remember where it started. The kid in the front of the picture on the 1995 Zanesville State Championship team, crashing his fathers' practices at the old Winland Memorial Gymnasium, Aronhalt has grown up in front of the Zanesville community. Then, in high school, becoming a thousand point scorer on Blue Avenue, and a collegiate career at the Division I level. The next step, a new journey that could prove to be the most challenging one yet.

As we have reported this week, Logan Aronhalt is the newest member of the University of Maryland basketball team. Transferring from the University at Albany to Maryland, Logan will be eligible immediately because of the rule where a graduate student can transfer to another school without penalty if that school offers a program that the current school does not. After recieving a blessing from Albany head coach Will Brown, Logan picking Maryland from a list of suitors. Kent State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Purdue, and Penn State all pursued the guard, who has already tallied 1,000 points in his collegiate career.

Aronahalt could be a candidate to start for coach Mark Turgeon's Terrapin team. Maryland losing all-conference guard Terrell Stoglin after the ACC's leading scorer from a year ago broke the Maryland Athletic Code of Conduct, and decided to enter the NBA draft. The Terps starting point guard Pe'Shon Howard is recovering from a February ACL surgery. In his third season as a Great Dane, Aronhalt playing in 30 games, starting 27. Logan averaged 13.8 points per game, and 4.3 rebounds per game. Aronhalt was hampered late in the season by a knee injury.

Last season, in coach Turgeon's first year, Maryland finished with a record of 17-15, finishing eighth in the ACC with a 6-10 conference record. Maryland did not make the NCAA tournament, and elected not to play in any other postseason tournament. The Terrapins' 2012-13 schedule has not yet been released.
