The Zanesville Athletic Football Club opened its inaugural season with a loss on the road, and the home slate had a similar result. ZAFC lost at the Maysville Athletic Complex 3-2 to the defending league champion AFC Cleveland Royals.

The turning point in the match came in the 66th minute when Smart Osadolor was given a red card for what looked to be like an accidental play. At the time Zanesville Athletic was down 2-1 and on the attack, but after Osadolor left, the game took a swing back towards AFC Cleveland.

With the loss the ZAFC falls to 0-2 on the season and won't return home until June 2 when they host FC Buffalo.
