It's not every day that you get to play in a professional stadium. But two local soccer teams will do just that Saturday afternoon. Both the Zanesville and West Muskingum boys will kick off their seasons against each other at Crew Stadium.
Both teams were hard at work Friday in preparation for the showdown in Columbus. West Muskingum comes into this season with high expectations, after going 9-7-2, in their playoff run a year ago. Head coach Ryan Barks returns six seniors, as the Tornadoes transition to Division II this season.
West Muskingum goes up against a tough Zanesville team, who also return a core group of upperclassmen. The Blue Devils went 11-4-2 last season before losing to Hilliard Darby in their D-1 Sectional. Saturday marks the second trip to Crew Stadium for both teams, but Barks and Zanesville head coach Steve Randles are looking for their first win at the venue.
Both schools sold out their allotment of tickets for the match, but admission will be granted at the door. The match gets underway at 3:30 p.m. For more information, contact school officials or visit thecrew.com.
