Ohio State welcomed a native of the Buckeye State into the Buckeye family on Saturday.

Gene Smith will take over as Ohio State's Athletic Director from Andy Geiger on April 15. In the process, he'll become the school's 8th A.D.

Buckeye faithful in Zanesville got a special treat from WHIZ.

The station helped to put on an autograph signing session on Saturday featuring 3 Buckeyes from Ohio State's 2002 football national championship team.

S Mike Doss (Ind. Colts), TE Ben Hartsock (Ind. Colts), and QB Craig Krenzel (Chi. Bears) came to Colony Square Mall, signing autographs for what seemed like an endless line of Ohio State fans from 11am-1pm.

Rosecrans senior Johnny Bills signed a letter of intent with Ohio Dominican University Friday. The 5-11, 185 running back joins the 2nd-year football program - 2004 was the Panthers' inaugural season - as an athlete.

"I think I'll play running back," Bills said. "I'm just excited to be coached at the next level."

Arizona State athletics director Gene Smith will assume the same duties at Ohio State, the AP reported Friday.

Smith, a Bedford native, will be introduced at a news conference 2 p.m. Sat.

All hail the new president.

Muskingum Basketball coach Dr. Jim Burson announced his retirement Monday, effective August 2006, after 38 years as the Muskies head coach

Burson will not coach Muskingum next season. Instead, he is taking a sabbatical for the 2005-06 season so he can become president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. That becomes effective this April at the D-I men's final four.

John Havlicek stopped by Value City Arena during the Ohio State-Wisconsin game, and the one-of-a-kind player was honored in a once-in-a-lifetime ceremony.

Havlicek's #5 jersey came unfurled from the rooftop of Schottenstein Center, joining 4 others, including one of Havlicek's Ohio State teammates, Jerry Lucas.

Dave Everson added another wrinkle to Blue Devil football.

Zanesville High School put on a coaches clinic featuring some of the nation's brightest minds.

Turns out, not even an upcoming NFL scouting combine can stop the Buckeyes from making public appearances.

Dustin Fox stopped by West Muskingum High School and spoke about his Buckeye experiences. He mentioned some of his more thrilling moments as a three-year starting cornerback. Fox also thanked Mark Dantonio for giving him that first opportunity to start a game.
