Kevin Martin may not officially be a part of the NBA's pre-draft camp in Chicago.
But the Zanesville native is in the Windy City and may be really pleased that he made the trip.
NBADRAFT.NET reports that Martin worked out Thursday afternoon for 8-10 teams at the Gold Coast Multiplex: Sonics, Spurs, Lakers, Heat, Nuggets and Mavericks included. Reports from several websites concluded that Martin impressed scouts with his athleticism and certainly helped his draft stock....
Reports differ on when the move will officially happen.
But the result is the same: Tim Couch's days with Cleveland are over.
Some reports say the Browns cut the former number on overall draft pick on Wednesday. Others cite an NFL source who says the release becomes official when Couch resolves his grievance against the Browns.
Couch became expendable once Cleveland signed former San Francisco quarterback Jeff Garcia this offseason.
How ironic that the one coach criticized for not going after the high-profile recruit gets fired for alleged recruiting violations.
Ohio State fired head basketball coach Jim O'Brien Tuesday. Buckeyes athletic director Andy Geiger says the action is the result of $6,000 allegedly given five years ago to former recruit Alex Radejovic by O'Brien.
"We consider these matters to be very severe," Geiger said. "I am troubled that a rule was admittedly violated and it took five...
The Associated Press came out with a definition earlier in the week saying that a dynasty occurs when a team wins 3 straight championships.
Newark Catholic did so on Saturday... beating N. Lewisburg Triad 3-1. All of the Green Wave's runs came in the first inning, and all were unearned after three errors by the Cardinals. Doug Stevens pitched a complete game, striking out 6. He also drove in a run.
Friday state track action featured plenty of locals, but one "Large" performance stole the show.
Sheridan's Stevi Large broke her personal and school record twice in the shot put. First, she threw the rock almost 45 feet (just over 44-9). That was better than any of the other 16 throwers in the opening flights. However, Trinity's Veronica Jatsek tossed one over 45 feet and 6 inches in the final. Large countered with a throw of 45 feet and 1/2 inch, but ultimately ranked second...
Cicadas, not tigers, dominated Day One of the Memorial.
When the dust cleared, though, it was a Columbus native tied atop the leaderboard. British Open champion Ben Curtis shot 4-under, as did Ernie Els.
However, in case you were wondering about the piercing ring that was audible even on TV, that was the mating call of male cicadas. The bugs come out every 17 years after developing. Golfers were seen swatting away the flying critters.
For the second straight year, Donnie Moran wins the $7000 race at Muskingum County Speedway. Moran won the race in front of family and friends... and on his father Ronnie's track. Ronnie Moran was pleased afterwards, but said he actually preferred to see somebody else win!

Crooksville decided to stay with part of the old as a new football era dawns.
The Ceramics chose Greg Williams as their new head football coach. Williams has been Doug Clifford's assistant the past several years after 4 years assisting Sheridan's Paul Culver. He also played his high-school football at Crooksville. There were only 2 candidates for the job, and both were assistants under Clifford, who resigned last month to concentrate more on his family.
