LPGA star Tammie Green and three others were honored by the ZDGA Monday at the VFW. Heavy local golf contributor Bill Phillips, 8-time ZDGA champion Steve Cope, and Jaycee Superintendent Mitch Bowman were inducted into the ZDGA Hall of Fame. Green was a 2001 inductee but couldn't make the dinner last year due to a pre-scheduled LPGA fundraising event in Atlanta, GA.
For the two Zanesville Middle Schools, it's just like Ohio State vs. Michigan. Not only do the two schools wear similar colors (Roosevelt: Scarlet and Grey, GC: blue and gold) but the Bulldogs refer to it as the Roosevelt game and the Rough Riders refer to it as the Grover Cleveland game. 1500 people attended this year's meeting and watched Grover Cleveland score 18 unanswered points to win 24-6. Jerry Quarles had 2 touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
Maysville Senior Kyle Coconis won the Division II High School Golf State Championship Saturday. Coconis shot a one over 73 in the final round to become the first golfer in the Zanesville area to win an individual championship. He finished with a total score of 148 to win by 3 strokes at Ohio State's Scarlet Course.
Buckeyes starting cornerback Richard McNutt will miss the rest of the season. The 5-11 Junior has arthritis in his ankle and the injury is so serious, it may end McNutt's career. Freshman E.J. Underwood is expected to start in his place vs. San Jose State.
