It took a total team effort for Cleveland to edge Utah 102-96 in overtime Saturday night. But come Tuesday night the Cavs will have to go even deeper when they host the Sonics.

Cavs center Zydrunas Ilgauskas will serve his one-game suspension, stemming from a 3rd quarter scuffle with Utah's Greg Ostertag on Saturday. And Coach Paul Silas also says rookie point guard LeBron James will most likely not play, as he is still nursing a sprained ankle that he sustained in the final seconds...

Vandalia Butler's 7-footer had an enormous against the Blue Devils.

Seth Gorney, an Iowa Hawkeye signee, scored 26 points and grabbed 19 rebounds as Vandalia Butler beat Zanesville 65-56 in the Buckeye Bracket consolation game at the Flyin' to the Hoop Tournament.

ZHS guards Drake Aronhalt and Korey Haddox combined to score 37 of the Devils' 56 points. Aronhalt totaled 19 while Haddox scored 18 as ZHS (4-9) shot 33 percent for the game.

Muskies coach Dr. Jim Burson gave the instructions on what to do in the final seconds.

Too bad for Muskingum Burson can't still play.

The Muskies lost to Baldwin-Wallace 69-64 in overtime Saturday. BW's Tom Harrington hit a three-pointer with only a few seconds left to send the game to OT.

"We told them to foul if they got close to a three pointer," Burson told WHIZ after the game. "We need to do a better job of communicating what to do. That's us as coaches...

The Blue Devils almost woke up their disappointing season.

Playing at 10:30 am on Saturday, Zanesville couldn't hold a 12 point lead, losing to Lakewood St. Edward 55-51 in round one of the Flyin' to the Hoops Tournament in Dayton.

The Eagles are ranked 10th in the first AP Division I state poll, which came out this week.

The loss was third straight for ZHS (4-8), which has dropped two consecutive games in the final 1:30.

Suspended Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett has pleaded guilty to failure to aid a law enforcement officer and has been fined 100 dollars.

Clarett was accused of filing a false police report by exaggerating the value of personal property he claimed was stolen from a car he borrowed from a dealership.

That charge could have landed Clarett in jail for up to six months.

The lesser charge carries no jail time and will not appear on a criminal record....

ZHS alum Kevin Martin exploded for 36 points on 12 of 27 shooting, and his Catamounts shot just 37 percent from the field in a 76-62 loss to Davidson. Western Carolina drops to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in the SoCon. Martin, who scored also scored 42 points in the Catamounts' previous game versus Elon, is one the nation's top scorers averaging close to 27 points per game.

Zanesville native and former Colorado Rockie Jay Payton, signs a multi-year contract with the San Diego Padres Tuesday afternoon. According to the San Diego Union Tribune Payton is expected to make a reported 1.5 million this season, the 3.5 million in 2005. The Padres will have a club option for a fourth year worth four-million dollars.

It's hard to deny perfection.

The OAC named Muskingum's Errol Robinson its conference wrestler of the week Monday. Robinson went 4-0 last week and owns a team-best 20-4 mark this season.

Robinson won the Most Outstanding wrestler during the Muskingum invitational earlier this season.

Cleveland signs pitcher David Riske to a one-year contract Monday. Riske became the Tribe's closer at the end of last season, but should start the year as a set-up man with closer Bob Wickman returning from injury.

Cincinnati signs pinch hitter John Vander Wal to a one-year, $700,000 deal. Vander Wal led the majors in grand slams last year with three.

That was quick.

Kevin Martin, held to a season-low 10 points in the Catamounts' previous game, scored 42 in WCU's 81-72 win against Elon Saturday.

Martin no longer leads the nation in scoring following his 2-of-11 outing against the College of Charleston. The Zanesville native now trails Keydren Clark (St. Peter's) and Bryant Matthews (Virginia Tech) on the nation's points per game list.

But Martin rebounded nicely against the Phoenix (4-10, 1-2). The 6-7...
