MILWAUKEE (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have claimed veteran George Kottaras off waivers from the Cleveland Indians, bolstering their catching position following the injury to Yadier Molina.
The team says Kottaras likely will be added to the 25-man roster Saturday in Milwaukee. St. Louis begins a three-game series Friday against the Brewers. Kottaras was batting .286 with three homers and four RBIs in 10 games for Cleveland.
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Former New York Knicks guard Luther "Ticky" Burden has a rare heart disease and is being treated at a Manhattan hospital.
The 61-year-old Burden has ATTR amyloidosis, a disease that causes the body's immune system to produce abnormal forms of antibodies. Dr. Mathew Maurer is treating Burden and says the ex-player has been "ravaged."
A fundraiser is to be held in Burden's hometown of Albany on July 25.
DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies owner Dick Monfort says he's sorry for his testy reactions to disgruntled fans, including telling one of them that maybe Denver doesn't deserve a Major League Baseball team anymore.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals activated outfielder Nori Aoki from the disabled list and optioned infielder Christian Colon to Triple-A Omaha before Kansas City's game Friday night against Detroit.
Aoki had been sidelined since June 21 with a strained left groin. He was 1 for 10 during a three-game rehab assignment for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Colon was 4 for 12 with two doubles and a triple in his first big league stint.
EDMOND, Okla. (AP) — Larry Laoretti and Dave Podas are withdrawing from the U.S. Senior Open.
Laoretti, who celebrated his 75th birthday on Friday, was the oldest player competing in the event. The 1992 U.S. Senior Open champion shot an 11-over 82 in the first round on Thursday, then withdrew after 12 holes on Friday at Oak Tree National. He was playing in his 19th Senior Open, and he said it likely was his last.
