ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Peyton Manning was disgusted with the Denver Broncos offense after the first of three practices with the Houston Texans.

And when the five-time MVP isn't happy, nobody's happy.

Asked specifically what had set him off, Manning stared at a reporter like he had stared down receiver Bubba Caldwell after a poorly run route or two an hour earlier.

"Were you watching?" Manning retorted.

What...

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have placed rookie wide receiver Shaquelle Evans on season-ending injured reserve after he underwent shoulder surgery Tuesday.

The fourth-round draft pick out of UCLA missed most of training camp after injuring a shoulder that caused him to sit out practice on Aug. 1.

Coach Rex Ryan said a few days later that the shoulder "looks pretty bad" and Evans never fully returned to practice.

CHICAGO (AP) — Manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday before the Orioles' game against the Chicago White Sox that starter Ubaldo Jimenez is moving to the bullpen. With right-hander Miguel Gonzalez expected to be recalled soon after throwing a 75-pitch simulated game Monday for Double-A Bowie, the Orioles needed to clear a spot in the rotation for his impending return from the minor leagues.

That spot ended up being Jimenez's, and Showalter he's leaning toward starting...

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Malcolm Smith tracked the eyes of quarterback Tarvaris Jackson and leapt into the air, snagging the football with one hand for an interception before racing 60 yards in the opposite direction for a touchdown.

Earl Thomas, K.J. Wright and other members of Seattle's defense chased Smith to the end zone, shouting "MVP! MVP!"

Not a bad first full day back on the practice field for Seattle's Super Bowl MVP.

Smith...

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock disclosed Tuesday the reason he missed the start of training camp is he's recovering from prostate cancer surgery.

Denbrock said he learned he had cancer while undergoing blood tests in June while applying for life insurance. He said the doctor believes he removed all the cancer.

Denbrock said it will be a while until he's back at full strength, but said he is getting stronger...

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — Chalk this up to one of the more bizarre injuries in golf. Matt Kuchar missed the final major of the year when his back locked up on him from having to sit too long in traffic.

Adding to this forgettable tale: He was shopping for a slip-and-slide.

Kuchar was considered among the favorites at the PGA Championship and felt his game was rounding into form after two days of practice at Valhalla. There was a party planned at the house...

Simpson confirmed Tuesday that he was absent from practice Monday to attend a hearing on his case at league headquarters in New York. Simpson said he "just told them the truth," but he acknowledged he was unsure whether his argument would persuade the NFL to reduce or eliminate any punishment....
