ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have been to consecutive World Series, had a perfect game and hosted Major League Baseball's first regular-season interleague game since moving into their ballpark 20 years ago.

Their stadium has also been home to four American League MVPs, and used to have Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan sitting in the front row.

The 20th anniversary of the first regular-season game played there is Friday. The Rangers host...

EIBAR, Spain (AP) — Alberto Contador's lead at the Tour of Basque Country was trimmed Wednesday during a fourth stage won by Dutch cyclist Wouter Poels.

Contador, a multiple Tour de France champion, lost two seconds of his overall lead. He is in front by 12 seconds with two stages left.

Poels attacked at the summit and hung on in the dash to the finish for a one-second victory over Spanish riders Alejandro Valverde and Samuel Sanchez. He covered the...

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Dan Straily pitched three-hit ball for seven innings and Sam Fuld hit a rare home run to help the Oakland Athletics complete a three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins with a 6-1 victory Thursday.

Straily (1-1) gave up one run and struck out five. The Athletics have gone nine straight games to start the season without their starter allowing more than three runs.

Fuld hit just his sixth homer in 738 career plate appearances and...

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Several of the early preseason publications and websites predict Ohio State should have one of the top 10 or 15 teams in the country.

If the Buckeyes live up to that hype, it'll likely be because of a lot of players who are unknown to even the most rabid fans.

They include receiver Johnnie Dixon, linebacker Raekwon McMillan, H-back Curtis Samuel, offensive lineman Marcelys Jones, kicker Sean Nuernberger and quarterbacks Cardale...

SEATTLE (AP) — A group of students helping make an anti-bullying video at Safeco Field on Thursday were surprised by Mariners ace pitcher Felix Hernandez and Seattle rapper Macklemore.

The students from Highland Middle School in Bellevue thought they were making the public service announcement with the Mariner Moose.

But after the Moose "flubbed" his lines a couple of times, Hernandez came on in relief. Then the group was joined by Macklemore at home...

ZURICH (AP) — Mark Geiger and Jurgen Klinsmann are in similar spots as they prepare for the World Cup. Both need a good opening match if they want to progress to the knockout rounds.

Geiger is trying to become the first American referee to advance from the World Cup group stage.

Klinsmann coaches the U.S., and his first challenge is June 16 against Ghana. Germany and Portugal complete Group G.

Geiger is the first American...

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Take it from the Cincinnati Reds: Michael Wacha's breakout postseason was no fluke.

In his first two starts for the St. Louis Cardinals, the 6-foot-6 right-hander has stared down one of the National League's top lineups. Just like last fall, he's been impervious to pressure, too.

After the Reds mustered a single run in 12 2-3 frustrating innings against the 22-year-old Wacha, Jay Bruce said it was like facing a carbon copy of...

CHICAGO (AP) — White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia will miss the rest of the season after causing a tear in his left shoulder while trying to make a diving catch.

An MRI taken Thursday at Chicago's Rush University Medical Center revealed a torn labrum. He is scheduled to have surgery next week.

"Obviously, it's lousy," Chicago general manager Rick Hahn said. "It stinks for the kid, who is crushed right now. He's very disappointed. He was hoping this...

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan's Jon Horford is planning to transfer for his final season of basketball eligibility.

The school announced Horford's decision Thursday.

The 6-foot-10 Horford averaged 3.8 points per game this season, helping the Wolverines win the Big Ten despite losing big man Mitch McGary to a back injury. It's not clear whether McGary will return to school next season or go to the NBA.

If McGary does not come...
