BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — Two girls whose teams have been competing to make it to the Little League World Series won't be facing each other in the Mid-Atlantic regional championship after all.

On Friday, pitcher Mo'Ne Davis' Taney Youth Baseball Association team from Philadelphia defeated the Colonie, New York, team 6-5 to advance to Sunday's finals.

Thirteen-year-old Davis did some key base-running to help put her team ahead.

TORONTO (AP) — Detroit Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez left Friday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth inning with a strained muscle in his right side. The team said he will be re-evaluated Saturday.

Sanchez lifted his right arm as if trying to stretch after striking out Josh Thole for the second out of the fifth. Detroit's trainer came to the mound and could be seen massaging Sanchez's pectoral muscle, next to his armpit. After trying a warmup...

The peloton brought back a breakaway shortly after riders hit a section of dirt roads with less than 10 miles left. Young's Optum-Kelly Benefit Strategies team positioned him well in the run-out, and he finished ahead of SmartStop's Jure Kocjan and UnitedHealthcare's Kiel Reijnen....

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Rory McIlroy is making this PGA Championship feel like 2000 all over again at Valhalla.

Back then, it was Tiger Woods who was making the game look easy as he started to pile up majors. Now it's McIlroy, the 25-year-old from Northern Ireland who produced superior shots with his long game and made all the right putts Friday for a 4-under 67 that gave him a one-shot lead over Jason Day and Jim Furyk.

"When I'm playing like this,...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — At No. 7, Tiger Woods bent over so gingerly to pick up his tee that you wondered whether he'd get back up.

At No. 8, he leaned so heavily on his putter while retrieving a ball from the cup that the shaft bowed like a guitar string.

By then he was 3-over par for the day, a half-dozen strokes on the wrong side of the cut line with a still-sore back and one foot already out the door. Sympathy for Woods might be in short supply,...

NEW YORK (AP) — Connecticut Sun forward Chiney Ogwumike missed her second straight game while recovering from an abscessed tooth.

The No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft this past April wasn't feeling well Monday night when her team returned from a road trip. By midnight the right side of her face had swelled up so badly she could barely talk or eat.

Ogwumike said she was on the phone with her mom every hour Monday night and had never felt such pain before...
