LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Tommy Armstrong Jr. is taking ownership of the Nebraska starting quarterback's job, saying he has learned from the mistakes he made last season.

The Cornhuskers won seven of the eight games Armstrong started in spite of his problem with turnovers. He threw eight interceptions. According to STATS, his rate of one for every 16 passes was the fourth-worst mark in the Bowl Subdivision for quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio legislative panel has approved a budget proposal saying college athletes are not employees under state law.

The proposal comes after last month's landmark decision by a National Labor Relations Board official involving the Northwestern University football team.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have signed free agent defensive lineman Jarius Wynn, who split last season between San Diego and Dallas.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, Wynn broke into the NFL in 2009 when the Georgia product was drafted in the sixth round by the Green Bay Packers.

He spent three seasons in Green Bay and then played the 2012 season with the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys signed Wynn last October after he was released...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Bobcats coach Steve Clifford says he expects starting power forward Josh McRoberts to return for Wednesday night's game against the Washington Wizards.

McRoberts has missed the last three games with a sprained left ankle.

Clifford said McRoberts felt "a lot better" during Tuesday's practice and "I would be confident that he'd be able to play" against Washington.

BELEK, Turkey (AP) — International ski federation chief Gian-Franco Kasper has been elected head of the association of Olympic winter sports bodies.

The 70-year-old Kasper was elected Tuesday, succeeding International Ice Hockey Federation president and fellow Swiss Rene Fasel.

Fasel had served as president of the Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations since 2002. The body represents the seven sports in the Winter Games....

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Jamaican Olympic sprinter Sherone Simpson has been banned from her sport until Dec. 20 after testing positive for a banned substance.

The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission on Tuesday said Simpson was "negligent in all the circumstances." The 18-month ban began from the date of her sample collection on June 21, 2013.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — More than 2,000 workers stayed away from venue construction sites for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics on Tuesday as a strike that began last week continued without an end in sight.

A spokesperson for Rio Mais, the consortium building venues at the Olympic Park, confirmed the work stoppage. It began Thursday in a dispute over which union represents the construction workers, and also involves benefits and working conditions.

NEW YORK (AP) — Manchester United will open its preseason U.S. tour with a match against the Los Angeles Galaxy on July 23 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State sophomore T.J. Warren is entering the NBA draft.

In a statement released by the school Tuesday, the Atlantic Coast Conference's player of the year said he had "a fun ride" but was ready for the NBA.
