BOSTON (AP) — Dejen Gebremeskel defended his title at the B.A.A. 5K on Saturday as thousands of runners took to the streets in Boston two days before the marathon.

The 2012 Olympic 5,000-meter silver medalist from Ethiopia edged Maine's Ben True in a photo finish, setting a race record of 13 minutes, 26 seconds.

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Scott Quigg of Britain retained his WBA super-bantamweight title by stopping substitute Tshifhiwa Munyai of South Africa in the second round on Saturday.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Blake Sims' bid to replace AJ McCarron as Alabama's starting quarterback hit a snag Saturday afternoon when the Crimson Tide defense dominated the annual A-Day game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
