TORONTO (AP) — Veteran forward David Booth has signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs after spending last season with Vancouver.

The 29-year-old winger had nine goals and 10 assists in 66 games with the Canucks.

He has 218 career points in 443 games with Vancouver and Florida. In 2008-09 with the Panthers, Booth set career highs in goals (31), assists (29) and points (60) in 72 games.

UMAG, Croatia (AP) — Fifth-seeded Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic needed a late rally to beat 100th-ranked Diego Sebastian Schwartzman 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2) in the first round of the Croatia Open on Tuesday.

TORONTO (AP) — The Blue Jays selected top pitching prospect Aaron Sanchez from Triple-A Buffalo in a flurry of roster moves Tuesday.

As well as promoting the right-handed Sanchez, Toronto also recalled infielder Ryan Goins and selected right-hander Esmil Rogers.

A first-round pick in the 2010 draft, Sanchez started the season at Double-A New Hampshire, where he was 3-4 with a 3.82 ERA in 14 starts.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Jay Paterno and another former assistant football coach at Penn State are suing the university over how they were dismissed from the staff when Bill O'Brien was hired as head coach two years ago.

Paterno and William Kenney filed a lawsuit Monday in Philadelphia federal court that seeks more than $1 million.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Ducks have signed defenseman Sami Vatanen to a two-year contract coming off his rookie season.

He had six goals, 15 assists and 22 penalty minutes in 48 games last season, when he won a bronze medal playing for Finland in the Sochi Olympics.

The 23-year-old Vatanen had one assist in five playoff games with the Ducks. He was drafted in the fourth round in 2009 by Anaheim.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) — A Bowling Green football player has been charged with attempted rape.

Court records show 19-year-old William Houston was arraigned Monday in Bowling Green Municipal Court and later released on bail. The records show no attorney for the sophomore running back.

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel and coach Doug Marrone have widely conflicting assessments on how the offense performed on the third day of training camp.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Sochi has been selected to host a major sports convention next year, despite global criticism of Russia following the downing of a Malaysian airliner over Ukraine.
