PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ryan Howard drove in a pair of runs and Kyle Kendrick overcame a rocky first inning to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night.

TORONTO (AP) — Drew Smyly pitched a two-hitter and retired the final 19 batters for the first complete game of his career, leading the Tampa Bay Rays over the struggling Toronto Blue Jays 8-0 on Friday night.

ATLANTA (AP) — Tiffany Vandersloot made a tiebreaking jumper from the top of the key with 20 seconds left the Sky to an 80-77 win over the Dream in the first game of their WNBA playoff series.

SNOQUALMIE, Wash. (AP) — Mike Goodes shot an 8-under 64 on Friday for a one-stroke lead in the Boeing Classic.

Goodes, 57, got off to a fast start with an eagle on the first hole, knocking it in from a bunker. He then had six birdies in the first round of the Champions Tour stop at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.
