INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Carlos Munoz had a perfect May at Indianapolis. Conor Daly learned how miserable the month can be.

On Sunday, things could change for the 21-year-old rookies, the youngest starters in this year's Indianapolis 500.

Munoz of Colombia is chasing a dream. The fastest rookie qualifier, at 228.342 mph, will start second -- the same spot his racing idol, Juan Pablo Montoya, started from when he won 2000 race. Montoya was the last rookie...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Jake Locker believes the best way to be a leader is by doing, not talking. It's why the Titans quarterback worked so hard on his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery to be ready for the team's offseason program.

So when the Titans start their organized team activities next week, Locker will be ready to throw without limitations.

Locker said Tuesday he is exactly where he expected to be approximately 20 weeks after surgery...

FAR HILLS, N.J. (AP) — Guan Tianlang has decided not to try to play in the U.S. Open.

The USGA said Tuesday that the 14-year-old from China has withdrawn from sectional qualifying in Dallas on June 3. Guan informed the USGA shortly after he received a sponsor's exemption to play in the Memorial, which ends June 2. The USGA offered to move Guan's qualifier from Texas to the Ohio to help with travel, but the teen declined.

Guan was exempt from the...

The number of people calling PGA Tour events after seeing possible rules violations has gone up since Tiger Woods took what turned out to be an illegal drop at the Masters. That doesn't mean the number of violations is increasing.

"The rate of irrelevant call-ins has gone up dramatically, too," said Tyler Dennis, the tour's vice president of competition.

What might seem like a simple solution — have a rules official monitor the telecast to look for...

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops says one of his graduate assistants and a strength coach had their homes destroyed in the tornado that hit suburban Oklahoma City.

Stoops told ESPN in an interview Tuesday that he doesn't know of any of Sooners players or their families who were hurt when the twister hit Moore on Monday.

Stoops' home is just south of Moore in the northern section of Norman, and he says his family saw the tornado...

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos keep bringing in veteran free-agent cornerbacks and Chris Harris keeps fending them off.

He aims to do the same with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who signed a one-year, $5 million deal with Denver this spring.

Last season, the Broncos brought in Drayton Florence and Tracy Porter. Florence was cut in training camp and Porter started the season as the right cornerback but got sick and never won his job back...

IndyCar said Rahal's team failed to comply with cooling rules that apply to the car and the driver. It did not specify what the Rahal Letterman Laningan team did.

Rahal's teammate, Jourdain, was found to have violated a bodywork rule. The Mexican driver two...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Bruton Smith just can't help himself sometimes.

The eccentric track owner this week suggested he might move a race away from Charlotte Motor Speedway at the exact same time a committee is considering electing him into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

When the 54 voters cast their ballots Wednesday, it will be impossible to overlook Smith's most recent headline-grabbing stunt. He told Charlotte television station WBTV on Monday there's...

BOSTON (AP) — Miami lost out on a chance to host the Super Bowl in 2016 and 2017.

And the team says it knows why.

The Florida Legislature's decision not to approve a plan to renovate the Dolphins' stadium doomed the area's hope of hosting the NFL championship games. League owners voted in Boston on Tuesday to send the 2016 Super Bowl to San Francisco and the '17 game to Houston.

Dolphins owner Steve Ross says he won't stop trying...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Vinny Del Negro is out as coach of the Los Angeles Clippers after their first-round playoff exit.

The team said Tuesday he won't be offered a new contract when his current one expires at the end of June.

Del Negro had a 128-102 regular-season record in three years with the team. The Clippers made the playoffs the last two seasons, including last year when they advanced to the second round for only the second time since the...
