NEW YORK (AP) — Hobey Baker Award finalist Kevin Hayes agreed to terms on a free-agent contract with the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers running backs Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount will be charged with marijuana possession following a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

Ross Township police say a traffic officer pulled over a Camaro operated by Bell around 1:30 p.m. after the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

GOLD COAST, Australia (AP) — Multiple Olympic and world champion Missy Franklin will swim in the 200-meter freestyle to test her sore back in the first event at the Pan Pacific championships.

CHICAGO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants have won their protest filed with Major League Baseball, and will now get to resume a rain-shortened game the Chicago Cubs thought they had won.

MLB says this is the first successful protest since 1986.

MLB executive Joe Torre ruled Wednesday on a game at Wrigley Field played the previous night. That game was called after 4 1-2 innings and the Cubs were declared the winner by a 2-0 score.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs say shortstop Starlin Castro has been scratched from the lineup because of a family emergency.

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson tailback Zac Brooks will miss the season with a foot injury.

The school announced Brooks' injury Wednesday. Football spokesman Tim Bourret said Brooks will need surgery but per Clemson policy did not provide specific details on the injury.

Brooks was the 16th-ranked Tigers' top returning running back after playing behind 1,000-yard rusher Rod McDowell last season. Brooks rushed 48 times for 246 yards.
