CHICAGO (AP) — Alfredo Simon lowered his ERA to 0.86, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1 Friday for their 16th win in their last 17 games at Wrigley Field.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miami Hurricanes forward James Kelly plans to transfer to a school closer to his home in Michigan.

Coach Jim Larranaga said Friday that Kelly was granted his release by the Hurricanes. The 6-foot-7 Kelly is from Ann Arbor, Mich.

He averaged 6.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 27 games as a junior last season.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Oklahoma, Georgia and LSU advanced to the Super Six of the NCAA women's gymnastics championships.

Oklahoma, last year's runner-up, led the way in the first semifinal Friday with 197.50 and posted the top team scores on the balance beam and floor exercise. Taylor Spears had the high score on the beam with a 9.925.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians designated hitter Jason Giambi will be activated from the disabled list on Monday after recovering from a fractured rib.

MIAMI (AP) — Right-hander Brandon Maurer will be recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to start for the injury-plagued Seattle Mariners on Sunday at Miami.
