PHOENIX (AP) — Martez Harrison recorded a career-high 31 points to lead Missouri-Kansas City over Grand Canyon 85-80 Thursday.
Harrison, a freshman averaging 16.7 ppg, was 10 of 17 from the floor and 9 of 12 from the line. Trinity Hall added 13 for the Kangaroos (9-18, 6-8 Western Athletic Conference), Nelson Kirksey had 12 points and Frank Williams added 10.
Grand Canyon (13-13, 8-5) scored the last six points of the first half — including Justin Foreman's 3-pointer with one tick left — to take a 46-40 advantage into the break.
UMKC tied the game at 68 with 6:44 left after Harrison drained all three free throws after being fouled taking a 3-pointer. Harrison's layup with 1:02 left made it a four-point game and his trey with 8 seconds left sealed the victory.
Jerome Garrison led Grand Canyon with a career-high 31 points, while Killian Larson added 27 points and eight rebounds.
