COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio's high court will listen to arguments later this month in a challenge of a law that puts a two-year time limit on claims against the state.

A Cleveland woman who says she was raped by two state prison guards fourteen years ago in a juvenile correctional facility is challenging the Ohio law.

State law allows victims of childhood sexual abuse until age 30 to file lawsuits over what they couldn't acknowledge until they were adults.

Ohio district focus of community schools forum

CINCINNATI (AP) — Changes in one of Ohio's urban public school districts will be highlighted in a national gathering of advocates of community school approaches.

The Coalition for Community Schools National Forum is set for downtown Cincinnati this week. A Tuesday evening reception at the convention center focuses on Cincinnati Public Schools' development of environmentally friendly school buildings during its push to create community learning centers.

New Ohio home for homeless vets gets $85,000 grant

LORAIN, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio Attorney General's Office has given an $85,000 grant to a new nonprofit home for homeless veterans trying to get back on their feet.

Valor Home is set to open May 1 in Lorain in northeastern Ohio.

It will have 30 beds for transitional housing for homeless veterans.

The $85,000 grant, announced this week, is planned to be used to help make improvements to the home. That will include remodeling the basement, fixing the roof and repairing damages from a burst pipe.

Sheriff: Man dead after crashing van into pole

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a 53-year-old man driving a van struck a pole in Dayton and was killed.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office says that the man was driving south on North Main Street around 10:30 p.m. Saturday and went off the right side of the roadway.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Harrison Township Fire Department.

HICKSVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say that an 87-year-old driver trying to back his vehicle up to a trash container at a refuse pickup center in Hicksville mistakenly drove forward, striking and killing a Defiance County worker.

The Blade in Toledo reports (http://bit.ly/1imuK5q) that 58-year-old Peter Simonis, of Defiance, was pinned against a parked trailer by the car driven by Max Hook, of Hicksville.

Ohio pilot killed in plane crash identified

ALBANY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities have identified the pilot killed in a small plane crash across from the Ohio University airport in eastern Ohio as a 73-year-old Athens County man.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that Charles Wagner crashed the 1972 Bellanca Super Viking around 6:30 p.m. Saturday near the Route 50-Route 32 split in Albany.

The agency says Wagner had been en route to the airport.

The pilot was the only person in the four-seat plane.

Century-old headstones vandalized at Ohio cemetery

ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Vandals damaged close to 100 headstones at an eastern Ohio cemetery this past week.

Some of the markers were almost 150 years old, dating back to the Civil War era.

City officials in Zanesville think that more than one person was responsible for the damage at the Woodlawn Cemetery because of how many headstones were either knocked over or broken.

Cemetery Superintendent Jeff Johnson says some of the broken makers might not be fixable. He says it looks like a tornado went through the cemetery.

Grandson, 3 others charged in Ohio man's death

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio (AP) — The grandson of an 84-year-old central Ohio man killed during a break-in has been charged in his death.

Three others also were indicted Friday in the slaying while a fifth person was charged with burglary and theft.

Two of the five charged are teens.

The Pickaway County Sheriff's office says 84-year-old Thomas Whitson was found dead at his home last weekend after what appeared to be a robbery.

Drivers say man jumped off bridge near Cincinnati

MIAMITOWN, Ohio (AP) — Crews are resuming their search of the Great Miami River near Cincinnati a day after drivers say a man stopped his car and jumped off an interstate bridge.

Firefighters and police officers started the search again Saturday morning after suspending their efforts late Friday afternoon.

Drivers on Interstate 74 west of Cincinnati reported seeing the man get out of his car and climb over the side of the bridge before he went in the water early Friday afternoon.

Ohio scouts leader charged with child pornography

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A Boy Scouts leader near Dayton has been charged with child pornography after an investigation by local and federal authorities.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency says 23-year-old Alan Johnson was arrested Thursday at his home in West Carrollton.

He appeared in federal court in Dayton on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

There was no public telephone listing for Johnson in the Dayton area.
