Come one come all to the 23rd annual Civil War Encampment Days! Sponsored by the Morgan county Reenactors Association, the event will take place July 9, 10, & 11, 20010. The location is in Morgan County, Ohio. Once again, it promises to be a great action packed weekend of both fun and learning for the whole family! Plus, there are no admittance fees or fees for parking! What more could one ask for in today’s economy!
The main camp will be set-up in the Grove area in McConnelsville, with both Northern and Southern Amy Camps. There will also be Sutler Row located in the commons across the road, where all can enjoy shopping, browsing, and even some education about the time period. Food will be available for purchase on the grounds as well as Doc’s cure all wagon with sarsaparilla for sale! If you never tried it, sarsaparilla is a very creamy root beer, very popular in the 1860s ((during the time period).
Everything gets underway on July 9th with music and live entertainment at Malta Riverfront Park, located along the beautiful Muskingum River, at 6:30PM. Food and drinks will be available during the evening. Entertainment will include the Clark Family with live music as well as Ernie Parnell
sharing informative stories of life and times of the Civil war era.
Following the entertainment thunder on the river begins as the cannons roar during the night firing. Union will be set up on the McConnelsville side in Eagles Park, while the confederates will be set up on the Malta side of the river. Following this, the soldiers will return to their camps to get some much needed rest and relaxation.
On Saturday, July 10, the Camps will open to the public at 10:00AM with activities taking place through out the day. The public is invited to visit the camps and talk to the reenactors as well as see how soldiers lived during the civil war era, 1860-1865. There will be demonstrations throughout the day. At 2:00Pm, events will take place in the town square in McConnelsville as the Union troops attempt to stop the invasion of the Rebel Troops as an
attempt is made to take over the town by the Rebels! Later on, for the

gentlemen dress of a time long passed. The public is welcomed to come and
watch, however period dress is required to participate in the ball. Dances of the period will be done with our ball Mistress of the evening, Elizabeth Reeve being in charge and the Back porch string Band providing the music for the evening.
