For the last couple of months area kids have read their way through summer vacation.
Nearly 3,000 young people have registered for the Muskingum County Library System's summer reading program, "Fizz, Boom, Read." The library system is still short of their goal of over 100,000 books read. So, in this last week, they encourage kids to meet their individual goals.
"It's such an important partnership with area educators, families and businesses to make sure we...
Representatives from the Muskingum County Library met with County Commissioners to overview the final phase of the librarys strategic plan and request levy renewal.
The levy would help fund the librarys future goals. According to Assistant Director, Blair Tom, the new plan will allow them to move forward from a transactional to a transformational way. This forward movement of the library is guided by a newly formed mission statement, which focuses on connecting people with...
Friday is the 13th and while some may see the day as unlucky, if you have fines on your library card it's your lucky day.
The library is holding an amnesty day. If you have overdue fines on your record you can choose one to be removed, as long as the item has been returned. The amnesty doesn't extend to items that have been lost or damaged.

In April, the library system found that where WI-FI is concerned the John McIntire Library, Roseville and Dresden branches all saw greater connectivity.
The Muskingum County library system is bringing you instant movies, music and books on demand.

Hoopla allows you to download music albums, movies, tv shows and audio books, all free of charge. There are unlimitied numbers of copies so customers never have to place a hold and can download it to...
Assistant Director of the John McIntire Library, Blair Tom, says in 2013, for every dollar invested in the general revenue fund, the library provided $5.15 in services, resources and materials to the community.
"Every year we try to grow that," said Tom. "We think it's important. Certainly we're pleased with the figure, but we always want to do better. So we're not satisfied, but we feel that $5.15 is a good return on investment for every dollar."
For those feeling cooped up in this winter weather there's a place of escape.
The Muskingum County Library System said during snow days they see an influx of patrons into their buildings. Most are families looking for entertainment in the form of DVDs or kids taking time to place with the puzzles. They're also borrowing books.
"We get messages and have conversations from superintendents and teachers that it's really important during these periods where there's been prolonged...
