Kids can now read their favorite books at the library without ever having to turn a page.

The Muskingum County Library System launched their "Kindles for Kids" program Wednesday. For now, the Kindles are only available at John McIntire Library, but if all goes well, the program could be expanded soon.

The John McIntire Library of Muskingum County is awaiting the release of estimates from the Office of Budget and Management.

For the last couple of months area kids have read their way through summer vacation.

Nearly 3,000 young people have registered for the Muskingum County Library System's summer reading program, "Fizz, Boom, Read." The library system is still short of their  goal of over 100,000 books read. So, in this last week, they encourage kids to meet their individual goals.

Representatives from the Muskingum County Library met with County Commissioners to overview the final phase of the librarys strategic plan and request levy renewal.

Friday is the 13th and while some may see the day as unlucky, if you have fines on your library card it's your lucky day.

The library is holding an amnesty day. If you have overdue fines on your record you can choose one to be removed, as long as the item has been returned. The amnesty doesn't extend to items that have been lost or damaged.

Assistant Director of the John McIntire Library, Blair Tom, says in 2013, for every dollar invested in the general revenue fund, the library provided $5.15 in services, resources and materials to the community.
