Many local boy scouts are being honored for their dedication and hard work.

Awards were given out Saturday to 2011 Silver Beaver recipients at North Terrace Christian Church. 48 Eagle Scouts also received honors , but one Cub Scout received a very special award for his heroic act of saving his grandfather's life.

Wandering through Greenwood Cemetery this morning, Troop 158 placed flags on veterans' graves.

"I'm here to honor the veterans and those who have fallen for our country," says 15-year-old life scout Austin Wheeler.

Local scouts and cheerleaders held a carwash today at the Golden Corral to raise money for Children's Miracle Network supporting the Nationwide Children's Hospital. Project Coordinator, Jeffery Brewer, says that cars showed up an hour early to get in line for the carwash. "It's a great community event and supports a great worthy cause," says Brewer.

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Zanesville High School cheerleaders helped to make this event a great fundraising opportunity.

More than 75 adults took classes Saturday to help lead the youth in our area.

The "University of Scouting" training event for the Boy Scouts of America gave adults advanced training to take back to their scout groups.

Today is a very special day for the Boy Scouts of America.

From now on Feb. 8 will be Boy Scouts of America Day in Zanesville. Mayor Howard Zwelling made the proclamation official this afternoon.

Boy Scouts across the country are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year and locally they're looking to honor someone in the area who's made a difference in the lives of scouts.

Local boy scouts were off the races Sunday afternoon.

Fifteen boy scouts from pack 121 out of Dresden, raced their homemade cars in the 40th Annual Pinewood Derby.

"They start with a block of wood with wheels and nails and they carve it and shape it and build it within a set of specs for length width, etc," explains Dan Riley, the Pack Committee Chairman.

The United Way is granting money to a local organization that they believe will have a positive effect on the community.

The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan county is giving the Muskingum Valley Boy Scouts $5,000 as part of its Community Grant Impact Funds. The Boy Scouts will use the money to develop a Learning for Life Post Program designed specifically for at-risk youth and youth in the juvenile court system.

If you drop by the Ohio University Zanesville campus you will notice several new additions... 101 to be exact.

To celebrate the Boy Scouts 100th anniversary around 80 local Boy Scouts planted 100 trees, plus one for good luck.
