Retailers hope shoppers will be out in full force Wednesday.

Analysts said Christmas was the weakest holiday shopping season since the height of the Great Recession. Locally, one store said Christmas was busy for them.

"We had an outstanding Christmas season right up until the last day and right up until 3 o'clock when we closed Monday. We were really busy," said Wade's Clothing Store Manager Bruce Barclay.

The most common, last minute shopping, especially on Christmas Eve is not for gifts but food and other items to create a holiday feast.

Many want their meal to be as fresh as possible so waiting until the last minute is the only option. Riesbeck's was one local grocer that experienced a surge in shoppers.

For any true procrastinators, you still have two more hours to buy any last minute gifts until the Maple Avenue H.H. Gregg store closes.

According to the Store Manager, Timothy Cousins, there are plenty of items left to purchase. From big screen TV's to stocking stuffers. His staff will try to accommodate the last minute customers the best they can.

For any last minute shoppers, Colony Square Mall has conveniently extended it's hours even more for this last week of Christmas shopping.

The hours at the mall today through December 22nd will be pushed back to 11 PM. This is one more hour longer than last week and two more than regular mall hours.

Shoppers swarmed Kmart on Saturday to purchase those last-minute gifts to put under the tree.

Kmart employee Saundra Fisher said it's been tough to keep up with the high demand of hit toys.

"One of them is the Fijit, which is an interactive toy," said Fisher.  "Also the Orbeez Foot Spa and the Monster High Dolls.  Everybody is crazy about those dolls.  The most popular is the LeapFrog TouchPad.  No one has it."
