Hunger in Ohio is on the rise. A recent report states 1 in 4 families are unable to afford food, making Ohio the 6th worst state in the nation when it comes to hunger. In an effort to make a difference, one local woman will lace-up and run - not only a mile- but a marathon- in their shoes....

More Ohio families are suffering from hunger - one of six households are unable to afford enough food.

A new federal report shows that Ohio ranks sixth in the nation for hunger.  Executive director of Christ's Table Keely Warden said food insecurity is on the rise in Muskingum County.

The numbers at Christ's Table are staggering.

Over the last month an organization that normally feeds 350 people a day has set record numbers in the last week and a half. On Monday, they had their biggest day with over 500 meals served to both those coming to 6th Street building and those homebound.

A new reports suggests Ohio may have more people suffering from hunger than most states.

The study through the Anti-Hunger Group Food Research and Action Center indicates Ohio is a top 20 contender for food hardship- with 1 in 4 families unable to afford food in the past 12 months. Executive Director of Christ's Table Keely Warden has seen the spike, with the number of meals and families served showing a steady incline since 2005. A lemonade stand aimed to raise money for a good cause became sour when competition moved in.

Christ's Table sold lemonade this weekend at the Stars and Stripes on the River event in Downtown Zanesville. The non profit organization worked to raise money for the hungry and homeless. They were scheduled to be the only lemonade stand at the event ....when two other lemonade stands set-up shop looking to profit.

The rain didn't stop walkers and runners Saturday morning in efforts to help feed the hungry.

The Kellogg 5K supports Christ's Table in Zanesville. About 400 people came out to show their support. Christ's Table Executive Director, Keely Warden said she hopes to raise about $1,000 which would feed around a thousand people.

Christ's Table and Kellogg's are teaming up for their 4th annual 5K run at the Kellogg's plant. The run is a big part of Christ's Table' budget which helps to feed the hungry in Muskingum County.

Christ's Table just got cooler thanks to a grant from the National Walmart Foundation.

The $65,000 grant helped them put in a new cooler and new freezer cutting down on energy costs. Plus, it let's them take in more donations and serve more people. Before this, the kitchen could not be as efficient.

"We had chest freezers everywhere and the donations would come in and they would get buried and they would get frost bitten and um our energy costs were high running all of those...

Around 20 students, spent more than 26 hours putting together 1,000 coupon books for a local service organization.

The coupon books from Christ's Table mimic payment books like the ones used for loan repayment. The hope is that people will use these booklets as a way to remember to give to an organization that helps fill the stomachs of many needy in our area.

Christ's Table welcomes locals to bring in New Year's with a hot meal.

Christ's Table opens its doors to the public providing warm meals Monday through Saturday from 11 AM to 1 PM. 

Sally Goins, a volunteer from Brighton Presbyterian Church, says their organization provides meals at Christ's Table every first Saturday of the month.  Sandwiches, tomato soup, salad, and dessert were a few of the food items on today's menu.
