Many kids will be warm for the winter thanks to a local establishment.

Terry's Tavern presented a $1,000 check to the Salvation Army for their "Coats For Kids" program. The money came from fundraisers held at the Tavern. Co-owner Tim Arnold said the idea to give to the cause came from their employees and customers.

The warm temperatures Wednesday made it feel like summer, but it won't be long before winter arrives and your kids will need their coats.

The Salvation Army held the first day of its annual "Coats for Kids" drive Wednesday at the shelter on Putnam Avenue.

It'll be a warm winter for children around the area thanks to a local organization.

The Salvation Army is preparing for their coats for kids giveaway. Donated coats are being cleaned and sorted as the event nears.

The colder months are coming....and now is the time to clean out the coat closet and donate.

The Salvation Army will once again team-up with Old Town Cleaners to collect "Coats for Kids." Gently worn coats are donated, cleaned and repaired by Old Town Cleaners and then distributed through the Salvation Army. With the fall in temperatures one local group is keeping kids in our area all buttoned up and in style.

The deadline is fast approaching if your child needs a coat for the upcoming winter season.

Parents have until Thursday to register for the Salvation Army's Coats for Kids event. The staff need to take down the child's name and coat size so it can go shopping for the outerwear next week. Then the parents will bring their kids in next Thursday to pick-up their coats.

It's hard to admit, but winter will be here before we know it.

The Salvation Army will be hosting it's annual Coats For Kids campaign October 7th-8th. They are asking the community to donate extra coats they may have.

"Were' still in need of coats, especially the middle sized kids. So anybody that would like to volunteer to hop on with that, just bring a coat in," said Shelter Manager Joyce Krouskoupf.
