Muskingum County Treasurer Carol Friel updated the county commissioner's on the status of the county's finances. Friel and the commissioner's reviewed the county's investments during their monthly meeting Monday afternoon.

Friel says everything is "right on target" and where it should be. While the county's finances are in good shape, Friel says it's important that residents pay their taxes on time.

Not much has changed in the county's budget.

During a meeting with the Muskingum County Commissioner's, County Treasurer Carol Friel said everything is stable with the county's investments.

"We have budgeted $550,000 and we're afraid we're going to have to change the budget projecting downward because the market has not, our investments have not proven to do what they had hoped they would when the budget was first put together," explained Friel.

With the economy still in the red, the Muskingum County Commissioners are in the process of approving this next year's budget and things are looking rather tight.

The County Commissioners have already passed appropriations for 25 percent of the budget for the 2011 fiscal year. Commissioner Jerry Lavy says estimated revenues are coming in and they are lower than what the county had hoped for. This means the budget belt just got a little tighter.

The new year means changes at the Muskingum County Commissioners Office.

Not only is there a new member to the staff in Jim Porter, but the commissioners are looking at a tight budget in the upcoming year. Commissioner Brian Hill said that they have a projected budget of $33 million but it's predicted they'll actually have $28 million to work with this year.

Muskingum County Commissioners held a budget meeting for 2011, and say things are looking similar to last year.

Each department must put up their 'wish list' for 2011. The proposed budget is slightly more than $31 million which commissioners say will be cut down when the final budget is approved. They say that county expenditures are currently down by approximately $200,000 from last year.
