City and state officials gathered with community members Friday at the Zanesville Country Club to help bring awareness to domestic violence.

Around 70 people attended Transitions Fundraising Luncheon. This is the 30th year Transitions has held the luncheon and last year it raised $5,000. The keynote speaker today is Ohio Supreme Court Justice Evelyn Stratton. She says it is important to break the cycle of domestic violence.

October is National Domestic Violence Month, symbolized by the color purple. Recent statistics suggest one out of every four women is a victim of domestic violence.

Avon Chairman and CEO Andrea Jung is also recognizing four non-profit groups in our area for their efforts in tackling both breast cancer and domestic violence.

Genesis Healthcare System received 50 thousand dollars for its work with breast cancer. The money will go toward the first nurse navigator that helps navigate medical and financial phases for women going through chemotherapy and other treaments.

Nearly one out of every four women and one out of ten men are a victim of some form of abuse.

A newly formed coalition is helping Muskingum County embrace hope.

October is national domestic violence month and the Response Victim Assistance Program is giving women the chance to have their voices heard.
