Roadway problems that were thought to be understood in the Eastpointe Industrial Park have taken a turn.

It was believed that a slip was forming in the roadway, but Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis told Port Authority Wednesday morning that there are actually other issues causing the problem.

A slip is forming on a roadway in the Eastpointe Industrial Park and its causing concerns for the Port Authority.

Port Authority Executive Director Mike Jacoby said a noticeable dip has appeared in the asphalt and a small crack is forming because the road was built on fill soil. The hope is to correct the problem before it becomes a larger one.

On Wednesday, the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority Board authorized executive director Mike Jacoby to enter into a concession agreement with Savage Safe Handling, a rail transloader company. Jacoby says Savage Safe Handling will develop relationships with other companies and charge them to move product by railway and truck. More research is being done on a job ready site in the Eastpointe Industrial Park.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority received $6,000 from American Electric Power. The grant money supports economic development and in this case will be use to collect soil samples on a section of property at Eastpointe. It's important to get these samples because most of that area is former strip mine.

Paving begins next month at the Eastpointe Industrial Park.

At a special meeting Wednesday the Port Authority awarded paving of Eastpointe Drive to the Shelly Company of Thornville with a bid of $200,712.55. They were one of three companies that competed for the project, the other two were Neff Paving with a bid of over $206,000 and Shelly and Sands with a bid of over $203,000.

Impending cuts to the City of Zanesville's budget is causing the Port Authority to rework their own.

At Wednesday's meeting Executive Director Jerry Nolder shared a letter written to City Council Members about a possible cut in the port's subsidy. A proposal in place would cut the port's funding in half from $100,000 to $50,000.

A Newark company will begin work on the job ready site in the Eastpointe Industrial Park.

At Friday's Muskingum County Port Authority meeting board members award Rayco the $200,000 project to finish grading a 102 acre pad. The Port's executive director says that will use most of the funds left to develop the area.
