Members of the Muskingum County Board of Elections were sworn in Monday afternoon.

Muskingum County Judge Eric Martin swore in two new board members, Karen Vincent and Charles Klein, along with Muskingum County Board of Elections Director, Chris Hamill, and Deputy Director Teresa Howell.

Muskingum County Board of Elections Director, Chris Hamill, says those interested in running in the May 6 primary, need to get their papers into the board of elections by Feb. 5. Interested candidates can pick up petition forms up at their Seventh Street location.

It has been one week since the general election and Councilwoman, Ann Gildow walked away with the most votes for one of the three Council- at -Large positions.

Gildow said she is thankful to be re-elected because during her first term, she was still becoming acquainted with how things are structured at city council and now will be able to accomplish more. The November general election is set to take place Tuesday.

Licking County held primary elections on Tuesday.

The only contested race on the ballot was the Republican primary for mayor of Newark. Incumbent Bob Diebold will not be serving another term. He lost the primary to Newark city treasurer Jeff Hall. Out of 2560 votes cast Hall received 39.53 percent to Diebold's 35 percent and Coshocton music teacher Mike Blowers 25.47 percent.

Hall will face Democrat Max Sutton in the November election.

The winner in the race for Licking County Common Pleas Domestic Judge is Craig Baldwin. He beat out his opponent Vicky Christiansen by nearly 10,000 votes.

Voters have chosen David Branstool as the Licking County Common Pleas General Judge over Robert Morris.

In the Licking County Commissioner race, Republican Doug Smith beat out his opponents Democrat Naomi Mattingly Compton and Libertarian candidate James Snedden Jr.

Governor Ted Strickland visited Zanesville Tuesday evening to thank democratic voters for their support.
