Licking County held primary elections on Tuesday.

The only contested race on the ballot was the Republican primary for mayor of Newark. Incumbent Bob Diebold will not be serving another term. He lost the primary to Newark city treasurer Jeff Hall. Out of 2560 votes cast Hall received 39.53 percent to Diebold's 35 percent and Coshocton music teacher Mike Blowers 25.47 percent.

Hall will face Democrat Max Sutton in the November election.

The winner in the race for Licking County Common Pleas Domestic Judge is Craig Baldwin. He beat out his opponent Vicky Christiansen by nearly 10,000 votes.

Voters have chosen David Branstool as the Licking County Common Pleas General Judge over Robert Morris.

In the Licking County Commissioner race, Republican Doug Smith beat out his opponents Democrat Naomi Mattingly Compton and Libertarian candidate James Snedden Jr.

Governor Ted Strickland visited Zanesville Tuesday evening to thank democratic voters for their support.

This election season Muskingum County voters prove that the library system is important to them.
