Fairfield County's Community Watch Program is entering its fourth year, and Sheriff Dave Phalen says crime has reduced by 50 percent in neighborhoods that are taking part.

The program utilizes four retired cruisers, all of which have Amber warning lights and are marked as "Community Watch" cars.

The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office is working with the organization Prevention Works to possibly have the county commissioners implement a curfew.

Children ages 12 or under would be required to be inside from dawn until dusk-unless they have parents' permission-and teenagers, ages 13-17, would not be allowed outside from midnight to five a.m.

A teenage girl is dead after being hit by a car while riding her horse.

It happened around 6:30 last night on Marcy Road in Fairfield County. The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says 69-year-old Donald Brunney was traveling west on Marcy Road when he struck a horse ridden by 15-year-old Chastity March.  March was transported to Children's Hospital by Bloom Township EMS and was later pronounced dead.  Brunney was not injured in the crash...

The Lancaster Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that took place just before midnight Thursday.

Troopers say that 34-year-old Jodi Holland of Lancaster was traveling west onto County Road 33 A near Horns Mill Road in Berne Township, when she struck a guardrail and was ejected from her vehicle.

Troopers say Holland wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, which is still under investigation.

Fairfield County is discussing possibly raising its sales tax by 0.25% to help generate about three million dollars for 2010.

Fairfield County Clerk Manager, Scott Zody, says the County Commissioners have been looking at raising the sales tax because of current budget and economic issues caused by reductions in state funding and reductions in local revenue.

Fairfield County is one of three counties to have the lowest sales tax in the state at 6.25%.
