If you aren't an avid farmer's market attendee then sometimes it can be difficult to know what produce are in season.

At the Saturday Farmer's Market a vendor from Cherry Orchard of Crooksville, explained what are the hot ticket items for July.

Bill Thomas of Thomas Family Orchard sells  plums, blueberries, peaches and 30 different types of apples. But last weeks weather has cost him part of his crop this season.

"Last Wednesday night, I lost eight trees," said Thomas. "Broke off at the roots, or at the graft union. That windstorm that came through here, it could happen again on Saturday afternoon i hear."

The Saturday Farmer's Market was a little bit cheesier than usual this week.

June is National Dairy Month and the Muskingum County Dairy Princess was at the farmer's market passing out cheese to promote dairy awareness and her knowledge of everything dairy inculding the cows.

"The most common breed is the Holstein they produce 90 percent of dairy milk in the United States, " said Dairy Princess, Brittney Miller.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center is the host for the farmer's market and this Wednesday will be the first one held there this season. Vendors will start selling at 3:30 p.m. and won't stop until 6:30 p.m.

The outdoor farmers markets are slowly coming to an end.

The weekly Wednesday farmers market at the Welcome Center hosted its last market of the season. For those with WIC coupons or senior citizens coupons time is running out to redeem them because not only are the coupons only good until the end of October but a lot of items will soon be gone.

The popular Saturday farmers market made a move this week.

The Farmers Market typically takes place right inside the gates of the fairgrounds but because of the fair taking place, it was moved downtown. Not only is the fair affecting the location, it's also affecting the flow of customers, which wasn't surprising to the vendors.

The drought has lifted a little but it may be too late for farmers.

The farmers market at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds had a larger crowd this Saturday than in the last weeks. The rain may have cooled things off, but it hasn't helped the produce much.

The drought has taken a toll on local farmers.

The high temperatures and little rain have put a damper on those who bring their crop to the farmers market at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds. The short rain from last weekend's storm has helped a little, but not much.

Despite the jump-start to the growing season, the hot weather is stunting the growth of some locally-grown produce.

Wednesday's Farmer's Market at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center saw an increase in vendors compared to last week, but some fruits and vegetables aren't fairing as well as others.
