A local shopping event is giving local artists a chance to display their work while helping a good cause.

The 2nd annual Newton Township Fire Department Holiday Bazaar took place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday . The event had more than 40 vendors and many of them were local artists. One artist in particular says she loves having a chance to display her hand made paintings to the public.

Cars, semi's and wreckage were scattered around the back of the fairgrounds on Saturday for a Firefighter's Training Day.

Zane State and the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department are teaming up for the fire department's membership drive.

The Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department held its Mother's Day fundraiser on Sunday.

The event started back in 1970 and has become an annual tradition. The firefighters began prepping 1,200 BBQ chickens at 4 a.m. Chief Gene Hanning said the proceeds help with general supplies.

The New Lexington Fire Department is opening its doors to the public.

Some federal funds will be heading to a Muskingum County fire department.

 Congressman Zack Space says $89,000 will help the Newton Township Volunteer Fire Department purchase new equipment.

The money is coming form the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Space says the funding will provide critical assistance to firefighters and first responders in Appalachian Ohio.

The funds will also provide additional training for personnel.
