Area residents got to end their Fourth of July weekend with a patriotic concert at Zanes Landing this evening.

The musical entertainment was put on by the Zanesville Memorial Concert Band. The group has been together 91 years, and according to Jeff Roquemore, Artistic Director of the band said this concert has been going on since the group was formed.

The community of Somerset celebrated the Fourth of July holiday with their annual festival Saturday afternoon.

Local residents turned out to enjoy a wide variety of activities kicking off with the parade at 11AM. Ventriloquists, magicians, a talent show, pedal pull, car show, and of course, food and fireworks were also all present at Saturday's event. Day two of the annual Stars and Stripes on the River event kicked off Friday afternoon.

Visitors can expect food, drinks, a live band, activities and a fireworks display which began at 9:45PM. All of the funds raised support local non profit organizations. One local group in particular, Christ's Table, will be selling Lemon Shake Ups to raise money for the hungry in Muskingum County.

The Village of Thornville was celebrating the Fourth of July in a special way Friday.

Flags and community residents lined the streets this morning to enjoy a long time community event. One local man, Ben Orr says he has been attending the parade for 30 years now. For him, it is a long time tradition.

While many will be busy with holiday travel plans this weekend, the State Highway Patrol will be busy trying to keep the roadways safe.

A father daughter duo will put on the fireworks show for the city of Zanesville on Thursday.
