Summer season is fast approaching and soon kids and even adults will look for a place to cool off from the heat. For some the pool is just the place.

It's the job of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department to inspect area pools during the season to ensure their sanitation and safety. Thursday, they held a meeting to teach those running the facilities the key to keeping their pool open.

The flu has landed in Muskingum County...and there's a re-newed call to get the flu shot.

The Center for Disease Control is now declaring flu widespread in the state of Ohio. The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department still has the flu vaccine available free for in-county adults.

"The best way to protect yourself is to get the flu vaccination. it's still available so please arrange to get that done as soon as possible. you need about two weeks to build up immunity...

It is now the official start of flu season and heath officials are urging everyone to get their flu shot.

Children over six months, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems, like cancer patients and the elderly are the most susceptible to the influenza virus.

Doctor Vicki Whitacre of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department said last year's flu shot will not protect you from the new strains of flu circulating this season.
