A local hero was laid to rest on Thursday.

Hundreds of people and at least 30 fire departments from across Ohio and West Virginia paid their respects to the late South Zanesville mayor and firefighter, Terry Richard "Dick" Guss at his funeral on Thursday. New Concord Fire Department's Fire Chief, Brent Gates, described Guss as a well respected and dedicated firefighter who always went the extra mile.

A former Muskingum County Sheriff was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon after fearlessly battling lung cancer and emphysema.

Bernie Gibson became the sheriff in 1977 and after being re-elected four times, held office longer than any other sheriff. Tuesday morning, there was a funeral service at William Thompson and Son Funeral Home followed by a burial at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Stovertown where there was a 21 gun salute and a flag folding ceremony.

The funeral arrangements are now in place for a 13-year-old Dresden girl who was killed in a car accident last week.

The Hillis and Hardwick Funeral Home says calling hours for Alison Clark are this Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

It will be held at the North Terrace Church of Christ on Bowers Lane in Zanesville. The funeral will also be held at the church.

Clark will be laid to rest at Eastern Cemetery in Summerfield.

Family and friends are saying their final goodbyes to 18-year-old Beau Greiner.

He was laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park this afternoon.

Greiner's friends say they wanted to do something special in his memory, so they brought out their ATV's and dirt bikes, saying it's what Greiner would have wanted.

"We used to hang out everyday after school and stuff, riding bikes. He taught us how to live and have fun every day, " Greiner's friend Rick Chambers.

The former owner of Nicols Family Restaurant and Ice Cream on Putnam Avenue has passed away, but Margaret Nicols' family says her memory will live on along with her food.

"She was a wonderful lady. She made sure everybody had something to eat and never wanted anybody hungry, " says Nichols' eldest daught, Marilyn Englehart.

Englehart says her mother and father opened Nicols Family Restaurant and Ice Cream back in 1947.
